Pedro Almodóvar’s first feature a long film in English. Despite its serious theme (Euthanasia), the film is extremely dull, detached and not emotionally touching at all.
The character played by Turturro is flat and uninteresting
I wonder how it can win the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. The connected stories just don’t make any sense (see the interpolation of the Gay Carmelite Brothers).
Come on Pedro, you can do better than this
The script sounds like political propaganda and does not come from the heart. I’m not entirely sure if Tilda Swinton was the best choice for this role, but after The Human Voice she seems to appear in all of Almodovar’s English mp videos.

There have been many films about euthanasia (such as Amenabari’s « Mar Adentro ») that are certainly more worthy of consideration than this frankly mediocre specimen.
